Searching for the perfect wedding venue that fits all of your needs can be really overwhelming. In Austin, new venues are opening up all of the time, so how do you make sure to pick the right one?
Well, you’re in luck! Here’s a comprehensive guide to finding a wedding venue in Austin, TX. I’ve also included some in the nearby cities as well. By the end, I’m confident you’ll find ample inspiration while you find the perfect wedding venue.
So you just got engaged and now what? Well, you don’t technically don’t have a wedding date until you’ve booked & secured your wedding venue. This means you’ve paid a deposit and signed a contract. To that end, booking your event space tends to be the first item on the planning to-do list for recently engaged couples. Pretty much the week they get engaged! But, there are considerations to be made and questions to be asked.
Your venue manager will be your point of contact for all questions and paperwork related to your venue. They’ll help you book the date & time of your wedding and they’ll detail all the items outlined in your contract.
Not every business comes with the use of items such as tables, chairs, flatware, etc. If you’re looking for a more all-inclusive experience, you’ll need to ask if these items are included. Otherwise, you will need to find an affordable party or events rental company in a nearby city.
Planning an outdoor wedding can be hit or miss in Austin! An al fresco wedding day will need a rain plan. Do you have the ability to tent the outdoor space? Will you have to rent a tent? Or, does your indoor/outdoor wedding venue offer a room “just in case” room?
Nobody wants a wet or destroyed bridal gown!
The accessibility of parking tends to get overlooked when planning a wedding in a city like Austin. If you have a big guest list, does the venue provide enough private parking? Think about the ease of a dedicated parking lot versus guests driving around the downtown streets of the city until they find a spot!
Not all Austin venues will allow sparklers to be used during your wedding exit. For example, historic spaces are less likely to allow sparklers during their events. Some may encourage other fun & festive options for your celebration.
Chapel Dulcinea (listed below) allows couples to use bubbles for a touch of whimsy. Have your heart set on sparklers? Rambling Rose Ranch & Wildflower Barn, both listed below, allow sparklers!
Important information to ask for setup & decor! How long before the scheduled time of your wedding ceremony or reception will you be granted entry access?
This is kind of a big one! Additional wedding professionals that you’ll hire after your venue is secured (photographer, planner, etc.) will depend on the venue’s requirements or restrictions. Some will require that you hire a wedding planner.
Additionally, some venues will allow you to hire the professionals of your choosing while others may require you to select vendors from a preferred list they have provided.
If you have your heart set on a specific type of food service business, you’ll need to find out in advance.
One thing is for sure, it’s never too early to book your wedding venue in Austin Texas! This is especially true if you have your eye on a specific wedding venue and are eager to secure your date! Post-pandemic weddings have had a longer period of planning (18-24 months).
If you’re open to window shopping and being flexible, you can safely opt to book your wedding venue 11-12 months in advance.
Once you’ve filled out your application and your marriage license has been granted, there will be an obligatory waiting period of three days before your wedding ceremony can take place. When the three-day waiting period has passed, your marriage license will be valid for 89 days.
In addition to some of the key points I’ve outlined above, you’ll also want to ask your venue manager about their specific payment requirements & schedule. The total percentage needed to secure your wedding date will vary. For example, some venues may require a 50% deposit, while others require a 15%-30% deposit.
Additionally, you’ll need to know when the next payment is due and when the final payment is due. Many wedding venues will only require a deposit & final payment; with final payment due once your headcount has been confirmed.
You may be wondering what months are considered peak season and off-season. There’s also no denying that the heat of Austin in the summer can be an absolute killer. Personally, I love the months of March through June for optimal weather, in addition to October through December.
If you’re wondering which category each of these date ranges fall into, October through December will be off-season, with March through June being peak wedding season.
You may have heard that you can save money by opting to get married during the off-season in Austin. But I will tell you, that may not always be the case. Yes, some may offer different rates, but don’t be surprised if rates are driven by the day (Friday, Saturday) versus the month.
